The Twins’ coaching staff for 2014 is the same as last year with one exception. Last fall Paul Molitor was added as a major league coach, and according to the current listing of coaches on the Twins’ MLB.com site, his title is simply “Coach”. My recollection of the announcement back then is not very clear, but I do remember one responsibility as “in game adviser”. At the time I was wondering if he was being groomed to step in if Gardenhire is let go, but that is such an unlikely scenario it must be he is now ready for the full responsibility of a season. In the past, he was quoted as saying he wanted time with family and that kept him in a more part time status.
No matter what the motivation for this addition, it will be interesting to see what impact he has on the team throughout the season.
